Engine Rebuild

One of  the biggest disappointments was the engine – a 42 HP Vetus diesel with low hours. On initial inspection, l was unable to turn it over manually. So on Feb. 12, 2010 I decided to pull the engine to facilitate a close inspection. With significant effort, the engine was finally removed on Mar. 12, 2010.

The inspection showed severe damage due to corrosion. So a complete rebuild was performed, including a inspection fo the transmission, and the removal of rest of the drive train (shaft, coupling, prop, Cutlass bearing, packing gland). Finally a test run of the engine was performed on Oct. 28, 2010.

Details of the removal and inspection can be found here (engine rebuild).

Details of the rebuild are provided here (engine rebuild-1) and here (engine rebuild-2).
